A rallying cry is a quick reminder of what you believe needs to be done to achieve your goals. It keeps you focused and on track. It creates an emotional response that motivates you to keep moving forward.
Here are some examples.
- Do it now.
- Keep it simple.
- Do your job.
- No excuses.
- Focus on what you can do.
- Be a leader, make a difference.
- Continuous challenge produces continuous improvement.
My rallying cry is “add value.” It reminds me to do something positive to improve the current situation. It helps me stay optimistic and action-oriented.
The advantage of a personal motto or slogan, according to author Meg Selig, is that they can help overcome negative thoughts, calm your mind, increase productivity and provide you with a shot of inspiration when you need it. Your rallying cry, or motto, may sound cliché, Selig notes, but “that does not make them less true.”
What’s your rallying cry?
If you don’t have one, list your last three significant accomplishments. What kept you going when you faced obstacles? What did you say to yourself to achieve success? Is there a common theme that applies in each situation?
What words best describe what keeps you focused, energized and motivated?
When you create a rallying cry, keep these points in mind. Make it:
- Short
- Emotional
- Actionable
- Something you truly believe
- Memorable
