How do you recognize an Ethical Leader? Today I’ll share 3 special approaches to the leadership role that are central to ethical leadership. These are ways that ethical leaders understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to others and world.
Ethical Leaders UNITE
- Using words and actions to unite and uplift rather than divide and tear down
- Using a calm demeanor and peaceful means to reach desired ends
- Seeking mutually beneficial decisions and paths for multiple constituents
Ethical Leaders SERVE
- Uniting people toward a purpose that serves others in a meaningful way
- Taking intentional action to improve lives and communities
- Seeing service as “the point” of good leadership, rather than focusing on power, prestige or personal gain
Ethical Leaders RESPECT
- Giving respect freely to all, not requiring that it be “earned” by certain people or granted based on personal preferences
- Requiring respect of others at all times
- Considering the right to dignity and respectful treatment a basic human right
Seeking unity, demonstrating service, and showing respect for all are necessary elements of ethical leadership. Look for a focus on the needs of others, consistent and sincere respect, and a quest for peaceful solutions to problems.
